VIVID IDEAS @ Ensemble

From Book To Boards: Adapting For The Stage

Ensemble Theatre is delighted to be presenting a unique opportunity on Sunday 5 June at 3:30pm as part of the Vivid Ideas Festival 2016.

As part of the 2016 season, Ensemble Theatre are producing an adaptation of the Australian Young Adult Fiction novel THE BIG DRY by Tony Davis. The stage adaptation by Mark Kilmurry will be a co-production with Australian Theatre for Young People and will be directed by Fraser Corfield.

Hosted by Mark Kilmurry, director Fraser Corfield and writer Tony Davis, the seminar From Book To Boards: Adapting For The Stage offers a unique opportunity for participants to learn from industry professionals about the process of adapting a literary text for the stage.

From Book To Boards: Adapting for The Stage is an engaging seminar which takes audience members through the process of adapting a literary text for the stage. But this is not just a talk fest – you’ll meet the team behind the brand new adapted play, THE BIG DRY. And what’s more, you can start your Vivid Ideas experience with a performance of this evocative and moving play immediately prior to the seminar, to truly bring the experience to life.

Charting the path of translation and adaptation from novel to stage, the seminar will explore the incorporation of stagecraft, along with the workshop and development processes culminating in rehearsals and performance. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the hosts in a Q&A session.

Audiences will leave the event enlightened about adaptation and buzzing with inspiration and practical tools to tackle the process themselves.

The seminar will take place in our rehearsal space, nestled next door to the theatre, so numbers are strictly limited.

Don’t delay or you may miss out!
