This Property is Condemned, a short play by Tennessee Williams, was one of the very first plays performed by the Ensemble Theatre on 11 May 1958. By asking two very recent graduates from the Ensemble Studios, Catherine McGraffin (Trying, Charitable Intent) and Jonathan Prescott (Rabbit Hole) to perform in this 2008 production we have matched the past with the present.
Each performance will be hosted by an actor whose early career started at the Ensemble Theatre. After the short performance and video footage of some of the actors from those early days, Catherine and Jonathan and the host for the evening will conduct a backstage tour of the theatre, which will demonstrate to you why we have to be such a small team! After interval the host for the evening will share his/her early memories, insights, funny stories, successes and debacles from those early days of the Ensemble Theatre through to today.
The evening will finish with a question and answer session. The interchangable hosts include three founding members; Lorraine Bayly, Don Reid and Tony Wickert; and four hosts with a long time association with Ensemble; Sandra Bates, Max Cullen, Zika Nester and Henri Szeps. Also hosting will be an actor who doesn’t go back to those early days but nevertheless has a huge history with Ensemble – Kate Raison.
We know most of you already feel very much part of Ensemble’s family, you’ll feel even more so after this.
